This assignment in Design class required us to make one collage in thirty minutes, which was a long time compared to the one we did before. Same rule as the last one. Click on "Read More" to see my response.
So I gave my collage a title, as it appears in the picture, "Lonely Peace". By the way I actually wanted to put the letters together to make "Loneliness in Peace", but due to the time limitation I chose a faster way, which seems less beautiful. Still, I want to express the sense of loneliness through my work.
The materials were from the package box of a kind of snack whose name I forgot, a magazine published by Chinese Students and Scholars Association, a handbook of U of I student codes, and a flyer which did not make sense to me. Also I drew a little figure of myself on a card board, cut it down and paste on the torn-down page from the U of I student codes handbook. The cartoon figure had a face, but I covered it with strawberries I cut down from the snack package box.. And it was quite fun putting letters I found from my materials, although this time my materials were limited in variety.
I want to give viewers a feeling of loneliness through the collage as I mentioned before. Sounds sentimental, but that is how I am. Being introverted, I enjoy the feeling of staying alone, so consequently loneliness is not my problem but more like a friend. In this case, "Lonely Peace" the title reflects the happiness I have, while no one can understand the "Peace" that I enjoy.
The figure is walking on a road, with trees surrounding and black-and-white pictures falling- I regard those the symbol of memories, under the road there is the reflection of houses and people, but on the road there is nothing around her- the real world is under her feet in the reflection, whereas she is immersed into her own imaginative, lonely but peaceful world where nature and good old memories embrace her.
